Engineering R&D Tax Credits
My R&D lab is everywhere I go

Although engineering tends to see itself as an industry of problem solvers rather than innovators, that’s exactly the dynamism that R&D Tax Credits were designed to reward.

Examples of qualifying work include:

  • Making processes and products safer, greener or more energy efficient.
  • Innovative decommissioning, disposal or recycling, including environmental clean-up.
  • Improving or introducing new instrumentation or tooling.
  • Specialised machine programming or CAD/CAM activity.
  • Machining complex components from exotic materials.

We are more than your average R&D outfit

Engineering in any form can pose a real challenge, but with RIFT your R&D claim shouldn't. With our 10+ years experience behind you and our expertise under your belt, you're in safe hands to not only claim back on your R&D expenditure, but maximise your entitlement too.

Our team of dedicated R&D experts go an extra step by:

  • Offering regular visits to your premises if needed to discuss, review and capture R&D activity as needed, to maximise your benefit.
  • Creating bespoke data capturing methods tailored to your company, to capture future R&D activities undertaken without being disruptive to your businesses operations.
  • Carrying out as much of your R&D leg work as possible. From identifying eligible projects, we carry your R&D baton through writing technical narratives and crunching those notoriously difficult R&D calculations.

McNealy Brown: The Value of Relationships

In 2018 alone RIFT was able to identify £130,725.89 of qualifying R&D activity for specialist steel fabricators and architectural metalworkers, McNealy Brown limited.

Having worked together for a number of years RIFT already had a good understanding of their project, process and ways of working. This relationship allowed RIFT to maximise the value of the claims each year.

Their 2018 projects in Westminster Abbey and the Dartford Tunnel both qualified for R&D tax relief. The Westminster Abbey work involved building steel and timber staircases, requiring a bespoke hoist and significant innovation to synthetically “age” some of the materials.

The Dartford Tunnel project meant stopping both existing and future leaks in the crossing. A bespoke guttering system was required, since no suitable materials existed.
